How to set up the VPN network Connection [Text and Pictures]]

Setting Up the VPN Network Connection

Step 1: Windows XP expects users to set connections up via the 'New Connection' Wizard. Go to the Control Panel>Network Connections and double-click on Create a new connection under Network Tasks.

Step 2:You will then see the New Connection Wizard. Click Next

Step 3:Choose Connect to the Internet at my workplace. Click Next.

.Step 4: Choose Virtual Private Network connection. Click Next.

Step 5:. You will be prompted for the name for this connection. Call it something like Cambridge VPDN (or any words you like), which should enable you to easily identify the icon in future. Click Next.

Step 6:. It is probably best not to choose Automatically dial this initial connection . You should only use the Cambridge VPDN server when you need it. Click Next.

Step 7:. You will then be prompted for the hostname of the VPN server. Enter Host name or IP address e.g: vpdn-access.csx.cam.ac.uk. Click Next.

Step 8:. You are then asked if it is for yourself or anybody who uses the machine. Unless another user of your computer has a VPDN account, you should choose My use only. Click Next.
Note:You will not see this step if yours is the only account on the machine.

Step 9:. You have now completed this section of the VPN configuration. Click Finish.
Immediately afterwards your machine will attempt to make a connection to the VPDN server.

Step 10: Go to desktop and double click the Cambridge VPDN, enter your username and password, click Connect.

Done now, enjoy!
